Grimmr Stefanson I Gryf, full name Grimmr Peder Lars Stefanson (pronounced (Nordhic): /grɪmr̥ petr̥ lars stefansɔn/, was the former and last Prince of Nordhurlant and was the sixth monarch from the House Gryf to hold the title, assuming the throne in 1983 following his father Prince Stefan Lars II's death.
Grimmr was born and brought up on the outskirts of the capital city of Nordhurstadt, in the royal palace of Heyggjurberg. He was the only child of Prince Stefan Lars II and his wife Britt Gunnarsdottir. His birth was important to his father, ensuring that the House Gryf would remain the only family from the Old Nordhic elite to rule Nordhurlant by giving a male heir. He was considered by most of the country a "spoiled child", on account of him being the only child of the wealthiest family in the country. He was so far the only citizen of Nordhurlant to have legally exited the country in order to receive an education. Grimmr completed a master's degree in political science at the University of Akerrau, in Brilliania. He married his wife Prince Consort Maria Astrid Bjornsdottir in 1987, shorty before going overseas to complete his education. He was a member of the Royal Nordhurlandic Navy, joining in 1989 after returning from Brilliania.
In 1992, he was honourably discharged from the Navy following a training accident that left him with non-life-threatening injuries, where a battleship was accidentally driven into a smaller tugboat of the Patāqmetasok coast. Nobody was seriously injured, however it raised concerns about safety onboard government ships. Using his degree in political science, Prince Grimmr overhauled the education system in Nordhurlant to make sure that Nordhurlanders saw their country in the best light possible. He served as Grand Protector of the Royal Library at Heyggjurberg from 2003-2018. As is traditional in the Gryf family, Grimmr kept his given name upon his father's death, opting not to take a regnal name.
In the later years of his reign, starting in the early 2000s, Grimmr took an increasingly tight grip on power, tightening restrictions and undoing reforms in the country as a means to ease dissent. In 2003, he famously imprisoned Tapetihan Underground leader Jīklew Kāqujkaj on charge of conspiracy to sow dissent. In 2018, Kāqujkaj was released following an agreement between the government and the Tapetihan Underground.
On 12 December 2018, Grimmr Stefanson Gryf was shot by one of his own guards in the royal palace, commencing the Twilight Revolution and bringing an end to the years of oppression and abuse of the country by the House Gryf, Grimmr Gryf in particular. In the newly-proclaimed Confederacy of Nordhurlant-Èlnumikmaki, public opinion is wholly against the former prince, and his legacy will be one of hardship, abuse of power and totalitarianism.
Name
Prince Grimmr's birthname is Grimmr Peder Lars Stefanson, of House Gryf. His full regal name, with all his royal titles, is Grimmr Peder Lars Stefanson I Gryf, Prince and Protector of Nordhurlant, Guardian of Truathism and Grand Protector of the Royal Library at Heyggjurberg.
Like all princes from House Gryf before him, he opted not to choose another regnal name to use instead of his birthname. Every one of his names is a historical member of the Old Nordhic Elite, paying homage to the society that controlled the country during the fight for independence.
