Nordhurstadt (Nordhic: Norðurstadt, pronounced /ˈnɔrˌrstat/; Tapetihan: Patāqjikan, pronounced /paˈtaːx.t͡ʃi.kan) was the capital city and current second largest city in Nordhurlant, with 13,064 people in 2016. Nordhurstadt was located in the Grimmrs Fylk before the Twilight Revolution, and was also the head city of that county. After the revolution, the city became the head of the Nordh province. Nordhurstadt is located in the north-east of Nordhurlant, at the site where the Prinsens Á (Talipkijeksipu) meets the Nordhbygt, south of the Patāqmetasok cliffs. The city was also home to the royal family, with the Heyggjurberg castle situated on the southernmost point of the cliffs, overlooking the delta. The city is divided into four main regions: Heyggjurbøur, Talipkijeksipuīkatoq, Grimmrsfjørður and Larsibýur. Nordhurstadt was not only the seat of power in Nordhurlant, but also the main port city. Few international ships used this port, however, owing to the monarchy's isolationist policies. The main naval base in Nordhurlant-Èlnumikmaki is situated near Nordhurstadt. It had used its status as capital of Nordhurlant to further influence the military, with the addition of a nearby army training base in 2016.

Nordhurstadt was founded in 1821 by Grimmr Grimmr Larsson Gryf, a Lhedwinic colonist from Kalgnat. Before this, it is not known whether a permanent settlement was here, as no evidence has been found. This is most likely due to the Tapetihans being a semi-nomadic culture before the arrival of Asurans. It is also likely that there would have been non-permanent settlements in the area at some point, owing to the location optimal for hunting and fishing at the delta of the rivers Talipkijeksipu, Kīkesipu and Patāqmetasoksipu.

While Nordhurstadt was also the seat of the monarchy, many of the nation's companies and corporations were also based here, even though none of them were allowed to operate outside of the country. The economy of Nordhurstadt is still primarily based on fishing, although manufacturing has become a bigger industry in recent years. Even a small domestic tourism business has arisen, with some Nordhurlanders coming to see the beautiful white chalk cliffs of Patāqmetasok. Some corporations based in Nordhurstadt during the years of the monarchy included NRDTV, the national Nordhic TV station, Norðnám, the nation's largest mining company, and Prinsentræ, the nation's second largest lumber corporation.

Etymology

Nordhurstadt is a compound of the Nordhic words Norður "north" and stadt "city". In modern Nordhic, the city would be spelt Norðurstadt, however due to the lack of the character "ð" in many foreign languages, the city is often transcribed as Nordhurstadt. The Tapetihan name for the city is Patāqjikan, also from patāq, "north"; and jikan, city. There also exists a more antiquated Tapetihan approximation of the sounds to form a name, giving notusètā.
