Demonym

"Stasnov" is derived from the word "Stas" that means "land" in the Seldaki language. "Nov" means new in the language of the southern tribes. When the Seldaki tribe conquered the contry and formed the 1st Empire it merged the two words into "Stasnov" which means "New Land". It was deemed by historians that the Seldaki named the country "New Land" because the territories they conquered were rather new to them and different than their mountainous homeland. When the Empire was formed, the population had communication problems due to the plethora of languages used by the many minorities and tribes. After the fall and reformation of the Empire into the 2nd Stasnovan Empire, Emperor Valdimir Stepanovich I created a new language with characteristics from all other local languages to solve the problem. Thus, the Stasnovan language (Russian) was created. The standard way to refer to a citizen in the country is "Stasnovan"

History

The history of Stasnov is divided between six eras - The Tribal Era that lasted until 882 BC, the First Empire Era (344 BC-165 AD), the Three Kidnoms Era (165 AD-1294 AD), the Tsardom of Stasnov Era (1294 AD-1448 AD), the Second Empire (1448 AD-1916 AD) and the Union of Socialist Republics (1919- today.

Tribal Era

The nation's history began with a period called "The Tribal Era" by most Stasnovan historians that lasted from prehestoric times until 882 BC. That name was given to thet period because of the of the multiple tribes that inhabited Stasnov. Remnatns of these civilasations are still being found today, with the most rescent one being the burial site near the the town of Glubovko, Netsya Socialist Republic, Seldaki Oblast.

Many of the tribes that originated from the centre of the country appear to be some kind of Nomadic pastoralist tribes, that traveled the central fields and large open areas of the country in large caravas. These tribes dwelled in the area of what is now Krasnayan Socialist Republic. Meanwhile, to the northwest, the tribes that inhabitted what is now the province of Novak SR sailing and shipbuilding skills and established many seaside towns and villages. To the mountainous regions of the northeast, the only tribe of which we know the name today, the Seldaki, built a strict and brutal warrior society in their cities that were usually build near the Vechnaya mountainrange.

After small tribal wars and conflicts the most of the tribes were exhausted, except the Seldaki, that due to their militaristic societ managed to prevail in almost every battle the fought against other tribes. During the 3rd Century B.C. (estimated to be around 256-253 B.C.) the Seldaki tribe launched was historians call "The Seldaki Invasion" on the all of the other tribes. Historical scripts suggest that the tribes under attack by the Seldaki former an alliance to counter them. Depsite the efforst of that alliance, the Seldaki tribe's military might managed to achieve victory in most cases, but with heavy casualties. After all oppossition was crushed, the Seldaki "unified" the tribes and formed the Stasnovan Empire under the rule of the Romanic dynasty, in 244 B.C. Thus ended the Tribal Era.

Political System

According to the 1991 Constitution of the United Socialist Republics of Stasnov, the country is a federation and socialist state of the whole people, expressing the will and interests of the workers, peasants, and intelligentsia, the working people, wherein the Premier is the head of state and the General Secretary of the Communist Party is the head of government. The United Socialist States of Stasnov is fundamentally structured as a Parliamentary Socialist State, werein the Communist Party is the leading force of the Stasnovan society and the nucleus of its political system. The Central (federal) government is composed of three branches:

  • Legislative: The bicameral People's Assembly of Stasnov, made up of the 2000-member Supreme Soviet and the 260-member Union Soviet, adopts federal law, declares war, approves treaties, has the power of the purse and the power of impeachment of the Premier. Members of the Supreme Soviet are all elected by popular vote, and can only be affiliated with the Communist Party, or be independent. The same applies for the Union Soviet, were the people of each State elect 10 candidates to represent them.
  • Executive: The Central Commitee of the Communist Party appoints the Government of Stasnov, the General Secretary, the Premier (who is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces)and other officers, who administer and enforce federal laws and policies. The Central Commitee can also veto legislative bills before they become law. It is also stated in the 1991 constitution, that referendums are to be held by every major demand by the population, including voting on critical laws and policies. The results of the referendum cannot be vetoed by the governemnt.
  • Judiciary: The Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, Supreme Court of Arbitration and lower federal courts (Provional and State Courts), whose judges are appointed by the Federation Soviet on the recommendation of the Premier, and/or the Central Commitee, interpret laws and can overturn laws they deem unconstitutional.

The Premier is elected by the vote of the Central Commitee for a six-year term (eligible for a second term, but not for a third consecutive term). Commissariats (Ministries) of the government are composed of the Premier and his deputies, ministers, and selected other individuals; all are appointed by the Central Commitee on the recommendation of the General Secretary.

The Central Commitee itself (also knwon as Tse-ka) ,is de jure the highest body of the Communist Party of the Stasnov (CPS) between Party Congresses. According to Party rules, the Central Commitee directs all Party and government activities between each Party Congress. Members of the Central Commitee are elected at the Party Congresses. The Communist Party has held a total of 30 Party Congresses. Membership of the Communist Party are estimated to be around 92 milion.

The current Premier of Stasnov, Nikolai Krasnov, was also elected as the General Secretary of the Central Commitee when the previous General Secretary, Georgy Antropov, died from heart attack in 2013. An act that was considered uncosntitutional at first, but after a voting by the Supreme Soviet and a refererdum, Krasnov was allowed to act as both the General Secretary and the Premier.

Economy

The economy of Stasnov is a Socialist one. The economy is primarily based on State-owned corporations, though companies that are collectively managed by the employees themselves have become increasingly popular, and they now are a major part of the Stasnovan economy. While the largest and most important corporations are owned by the state, smaller, but not much less significant ones operate under the collective management of the employees. The economy is described as a mixture of planned socialist economy and a decentralized, worker managed market socialist economy, with some small-to-medium sized private buisnesses also being part of the economy.

The first post-Revolution years saw implementation of Soviet-style five-year plans and reconstruction through massive voluntary work. However, while immedeately after the 1919 Revolution the Stasnovan economy was strictly centrally-planned in order to recover quickly, Premier Artyom Cherdenko (in office between 1951 and 1961) quickly undertook Market reforms in 1959, in order to improve the allocation of capital and consumer goods, something that many dubbed as "fulfilling Ivan Moskvin's dream of a new kind of Socialist Motherland"
