Richard Benkel (born: 16 July 1957) is a Besmenian jurist and politican, who is since May 8, 2021 the 14th Prime Minister of Besmenia. On behalf of Vincent von Schilling, after the trust the government cabinet Sidemann III had been renounced by a vote of no confidenceby the Federal Chamber as a result of the Hille affair, he formed the first non-party government of Besmenia. Before that, Benkel was Vice President of the Federal Constitutional Court from 2004 to 2015 and President of the Federal Constitutional Courtfrom 2015 to 2021.

Benkel ran as an independent candidate in the 2009 Besmenian presidential election and received 10.4% of the vote.
