Based heavily on the same mechanisms of the Acrean StG 63 and utilizing the same cartridge, the ÚHP was successfully trialed between 1984 and 1985. Although deemed a reliable and well-functioning firearm, the ÚHP was not adopted as a replacement for the G66 primarily on logistical reasons; it was deemed impractical to retool from the already standard 7.62×39mm cartridge and the G88 was chosen instead.
