The East Sea Fleet (Namorese: Тунгhои Дженти) is a part of the Namorese Liberation Army Navy (NLAN), and by far the largest of all fleets in the Namorese navy. Because its founding date is on September 1, NMR 2291 (9-1-91), the fleet is sometimes nicknamed Fleet 9191. It is situated around the East Namor Sea.
The East Sea Fleet makes up a large component of the NLAN. Its main tasks include the defense of southern coastal cities, many of which are Namor's largest cities; cooperation with the Coast Guard to combat piracy and smuggling; protection of Namorese civilians traveling in the East Namor Sea; and the defense of Namor's maritime boundaries against external threats. Prior to the Changlang Crisis and the annexation of Peitoa, it was widely speculated that the East Sea Fleet would play a strategically important role in a mainland Namorese invasion of the Peitoan archipelago. As speculated, the fleet assisted the NLA's offensive against Peitoa which ended in a Namorese victory. Due to its size and uncontested dominance in the East Namor Sea, the Fleet is regarded as an important backbone of the Namorese navy.
From NMR 2291 to NMR 2317, the headquarters of the East Sea Fleet was in Namo, but in NMR 2317 it was moved to a better facility, the Esquarian City Fleet Headquarters (formerly the Orwen Naval Base under Iglesian rule).
History
Before the East Sea Fleet, Namor did not have an efficient navy. The Antelopian Dynasty maintained a large armada in the East Namor Sea (considered by some to be the predecessor of the fleet in its present form), but it was disbanded following the Double Fourth Revolution. The Republic of Namor had a navy, but due to financial problems it was unable to maintain it. After the Namo-Chorean War, some Chorean ships docked by mainland Namor were stripped of Chorean ownership and became part of the Namorese navy.
The East Sea Fleet was established September 1, NMR 2291, one year after the Namorese Civil War ended and the People's Republic was founded. It initially consisted of captured Republican and Chorean ships, but the Liberationist government spent a lot of money on its development because it regarded the fleet as crucial for an invasion of Peitoa and protection of Namorese coastal cities from hostile East Luziycan and Qianrongese ships. The Liberationists also hoped that a fleet would prevent Republican espionage and smuggling activities in the mainland.
In NMR 2298, the Liberationists attempted to take over Peitoa in Operation Olympus, believing that the fleet was ready to support an invasion, but the operation failed and as a result the Liberationists continued to pour in their resources to strengthen the fleet.
Major naval bases of the East Sea Fleet include:
- Esquarian City Fleet Headquarters (HQ/Garrison)
- Namo Naval Station
- Sicho Naval Station
- Kamuden Naval Station
- Mojing Naval Station
- Hoy Phong Naval Station
