Sir Tobias Atticus Henry Isidor Somerset, CH, KBE, ONZ, MR, KC (joined 7 October 2022) is a Judge and the present Master of the Rolls within the Empire. Formerly a prominent Parliamentarian, Somerset is also known for serving as a Barrister, Business Executive, Clergyman in the Empire of Great Britain. Known within the region as Toby Somerset, he co-authored the Judiciary Act 2023 part of The Acts of Union along with several pieces of non-standard legislation in relation to Home Affiars, such as HM Prison Service Act and HM Police Forces Act. Somerset has served as a Member of Parliament, Speaker of the House of Commons, Home Secretary, and most recently as Senior Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords serving as Acting Lord Speaker at the request of his father Henry, Prince of Wales.

Family

Somerset was formerly a member of the old Sherwood Family but left after dissatifaction.

Subsequently becoming a de Stafford-Howard-Pembroke, this family were members of the landed gentry and upper-class of Empire of Great Britain. The de Stafford’s originally came to Britain during the Norman Conquest, fighting for King William I and subsequently being granted lands in Stafford, from where they get their name. The House of Howard is an English noble house founded by John Howard. He was created the Duke of Norfolk by King Richard III of England in 1483. Finally the Pembroke’s were established in the Kingdom of Great Britain, and held the family seat of Hwlffordd Park, which has since been lost.

A few British noble or gentry families have "triple-barrelled" surnames. These indicate prima facie (the inheritance of multiple estates) and thus the consolidation of great wealth. These are sometimes created when the legator has a double-barrelled name and the legatee has a single surname, or vice versa. The de Stafford-Howard-Pembroke Family were formed due to this legality.

Somerset was adopted by Henry, Prince Royal becoming part of the Royal House of Somerset, though he is not presently in line for the throne.

Sotheby's and Other Businesses

Somsertset is specualated to be one of the wealthiest people within the Empire of Great Britian. His orignial success was derived from the company Sotherby's & Co. which he founded on the 4 November 2022.

The business holds auctions out of Pembroke House, Bond Street, London, and bases its head quarters out of Greys Court in Oxfordshire. Both historic buildings are privately owned by Sir Tobias.

Sotherby's garnered much success and sold many collections to the wealthy of the Empire, eventually being merged into The Stafford Group (formerly Atholl Financial Holdings) alongside Somerset's other successful enterprise, the Inverlochy Estate Trust, located at Inverlochy Castle in Scotland.

Public Service

Somerset has served as a Member of Parliament for both the constituencies of Stafford and Preseli Pembrokeshire, having been elected as Speaker of the House during one of the sessions. Prior to this, however, Sir Tobias served as Shadow Chancellor for the Opposition led by Sirch Somerset, upon whose resignation Somerset became the Leader of the Opposition (having done so within the forst month of his arrival).

Somserset has held two cabinet positions during his time in the Empire, first as Justice Secretary under the Premiership of the Viscountess Balloch, and secondly as Home Secretary under the Premiership of Elio Somerset.

Sir Tobias now sits in the Royal Court of Justice as Master of the Rolls, alongside his Cousin Elio Somerset who is the Lord Chief Justice.

Court Cases

Somerset (then Lord Stafford) was appointed as a High Court Recorder to hear Ex Parte the Viscount Islington, re: Denied Petition for Legal Question, a case that was accepted as a Judicial Review on the 15 April 2023 by King Edward IX as King-on-the-Bench. The petitioner was Elizabeth Somerset who acted on the instuction of the Viscount Islington after he made is orignial petition to the Court. Matthew Somerset acted on the instruction of the Earl of Antrim, Lord Chief Justice, who was the case's respondent. The Case was heard between the 15 April and 19 April 2023 and Judgement was delivered on the 20 April 2023. Both questions were answered in the negative by Lord Stafford, and the case also established the Stafford Test for Locus Standi.

Sir Tobias also heard Ex Parte the Duchess of Edinburgh, re: Executive Order 34 The petitioner was Elizabeth Somerset who listed His Majesty’s Government as the respondent (though they made no submissions). Henry, Prince of Wales was appointed to hear the case in addition to the then Lord Stafford and the hearing took place between 22 and 25 April 2023. The majority opinion was delivered by the Prince of Wales on 26 April 2023 with whom Lord Stafford agreed. The Court answered the Question of "Is it legal to bind the House of Commons into a procedure they have not consented to?" in the negative and the Question of "Does Section 6.3 of the Executive Order contradict that?" in the affirmative. The Court thus granted the relief requested by Elizabeth Somerset and accordingly “Sections 6.3 and 7.02 of Executive Order 34 are struck and considered null and void”.

Titles, styles, and honours

Styles

  • 7 October 2022: Mr Tobias Pembroke
  • 3 November 2022: The Right Honourable Mr Tobias Pembroke PC
  • 25 March 2023: The Right Honourable Sergeant Major the Baron Stafford, CH, OBE, ONZ
  • 17 May 2023: The Right Honourable Sergeant Major Sir Tobias Somerset, CH, KBE, ONZ, MR, KC

The spoken style of a Baron or Lord in the Empire of Great Britain is "My Lord" or "Your Lordship" when being spoken to directly, or "His Lordship" if being reffered to in conversation. This is also how Judges are reffered to in Court.

Other peers refer to eachother either by their designation or "Lord [designation]" so the Baron Brookes would be "Lord Brookes" or simply "Brookes".
