=Etymology=
The nation was named after the Kiramites, the ruling family of Kiram. The family derived its name from its semi-legendary founder, Raja Kiram ul-Yuha'min. According to family legend, the "Yuha'min" part of the regnal name was adopted in reference to his claim as a desendant of the Prophet. Yuha'min was the second preference for the national name in the Royal Council deliberations. Raja Jamalul II opposed the name. He believed Raja Kiram was not related to the House of Yuha'min. He adopted the name Yuha'min to establish his nobility. In the Centralization Act of 1862, Yuha'min was rejected in favor of "Kiram."
