The 2024 Besmenian presidential election will be held in Besmenia on 10 March 2024. The 20th Besmenian presidential election, which originally would have taken place in February 2027, had to be presented three years earlier due to the resignation of Vincent von Schilling on 11 January 2024, who has been in office since 2021, as a result of the plagiarism scandal surrounding his dissertation and the revocation of his doctorate from the University of Könlenz.
Electoral system
The President of Besmenia is directly elected by the population once every six years. The election is held under a two-round system; if no candidate receives more than 50% of votes cast in the first round, then a second ballot occurs in which only those two candidates who received the greatest number of votes in the first round may stand.
Electoral law
Eligible to vote were all who:
- had reached the age of 16 by February 10, 2024 at the latest
- had Besmenian citizenship and their main place of residence in Besmenia and were not disqualified from voting
- were Besmenians abroad who appeared in the electoral register of an Besmenian municipality
