In addition, his popularity increased within the population, which he was re-elected in the 1968 Besmenian federal election. However, its popularity declined in the early 1970s due to the economic consequences of the reunification. As a result, he was defeated in the 1972 Besmenian federal election against the BVP with Robert Gleitzmann.
