Sebastian Bergmann (born: 27 February 1949) is a former Besmenian politician who served from 2015 to 2021 the 11th President of Besmenia. He previously served as Federal Environment Minister from 1993 to 2001 and from 2001 to 2014 as Federal Chairman of the Green Party of Besmenia.
Born in Arnsberg, Metakumburg in then-East Besmenia, Bergmann studied social sciences at the University of Behringen from 1968 to 1976, graduating with a degree in social economics. He joined the SDU in 1970 and later the GPB in 1982, where he belonged to the left wing of the party. After the 1989 federal election, Bergmann became a member of the Federal Chamber for Metakumburg. After the 1993 federal election, he was sworn in as Federal Environment Minister in the BVP-GPB coalition led by Erik Tautenbach. Bergmann held the office until October 2001 until the defeat of the BVP-GPB coalition after the 2001 federal election.
After the previous GPB chairman Ludwig Bröckler announced his resignation due to the election defeat in 2001, Bergmann was elected chairman of the GPB in autumn 2001 with the help of the left wing. Under Bergmann's leadership, the previous green-conservative GPB developed into a more left-wing party-oriented party. Bergmann was his party's top candidate in the 2005, 2009 and 2012 elections.
In May 2014 he announced his interest in running in the 2015 presidential election, where Bergmann won the election in the first round and was sworn in as president in April 2015, the first ever to have previously belonged to the GPB. However, in the 2021 presidential election, Bergmann lost to BVP candidate Vincent von Schilling in the second runoff.
