The President of Imagua and the Assimas (Vespasian: Presidente di Imagua e Assime) is the head of state of Imagua and the Assimas. From its establishment in 1937 when the Constitution of Imagua and the Assimas was promulgated, it was originally the same position as the President of Estmere, with a Governor-General serving as his vice-regal representative. However, in 1948, an agreement was made with the Estmerish government which saw the President of Estmere renounce his position as the President of Imagua and the Assimas, and the last Governor-General was appointed President.
In 1952, it became a democratically elected post, being elected every four years by all citizens. Since then, all Presidents of Imagua and the Assimas have been elected every four years.
In the event that the President is unable to exercise his or her duties, the Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister of Imagua and the Assimas would function as Acting President. Should the President die, the Prime Minister becomes President, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Imagua and the Assimas would become Acting Prime Minister until fresh parliamentary elections are held.
Official residence
The official residence of the President of Imagua and the Assimas is the Red House in Cuanstad. Built in 1907, it was the home of the Governor after his previous residence was destroyed in 1896 in a flood. The Red House remained the official residence of the Imaguan governor until Imagua was granted self-government by Estmere in 1937.
Afterwards, the Red House was inhabited by the Governor-General, as the representative of the Estmerish president, continuing in this role until 1945 when Imagua became part of the United Provinces, with the house becoming home of the Lieutenant Governor of Imagua, lasting until 1948 when Imagua was expelled from the United Provinces.
As the residence of the governors, governors-general, and a lieutenant governor, the Red House became the official residence of the Imaguan president, and every single President of Imagua and the Assimas since Walter Redmond Keswick have lived at the Red House.
