Lentini, officially the Republic of Lentini Island (Lilledic: Ja Lentinysselje Republicke), is a state within the Crylantian Federation, located on an island in the Bay of Lentini-Badessa. Dominated by its namesake largest town and capital city, in which over 90% of the population live, the Republic’s history has been heavily centred around the city. The state is the sixth largest within the Crylantian Federation, after Sønderburg, Nebligen, Särmäki, Dybøll and Neititsnot, and the third largest in Lilledel, after Sønderburg and Nebligen.

The island has been inhabited continuously by various peoples for thousands of years, with proto-Nausikaan people living on the island and building iron-age structures in the late eleventh millennium BCE, which have been recognised by WECO as a World Heritage Site. The modern city of Lentini was originally founded as Lenta Aqua by Lilledic farmers in the 8th century, building a small seaside town as a place to farm their cattle.

Originally an independent area governed by a thing, the island was incorporated into the Duchy of Sønderburg in 954, becoming a vantage point in the bay for the small Duchy which would go on to unite Lilledel and Rigjord. The island had a fairly insignificant status throughout the rest of the history of the Duchy, although the town had a notable amount of wealth, and due to its status as a loyal follower of the House of Lofthus in the years of the Crylantian Empire, it was granted the status as a “Free City” in 13339. The city prospered throughout much of the following centuries, being a fairly well-off town throughout the Crylantian Empire years and the Lhaeraidh years. However, the city took a downturn in the rapid industrialisation that Lhedwin pursued in the province, losing ground to Sønderburg and Lentini.

However, the university had gained prominence, with many thinkers growing to oppose the status quo, developing Crylantian republicanism and liberalism. These ideas took over the island in the Great War, leading to a Declaration of Independence in 1899 and incorporation into the new Grand Duchy of Lilledel in 1900. In 1916 as a response to the Aversi Crisis the city was bombed by Newreyan terrorists, but over the last century the city has been rebuilt and prospered.

Today, the city is known for its university, which much of the city centres around, due to its many scientific and humanitarian intellectuals and its high position on worldwide lists, as welll as the cultural movements in the city and its left-wing politics. It was notably the first Crylantian state to elect MPs from the Green and Left Parties, and one of the major supporters of Septimus’s ideas during the 1940’s. These left-wing politics have led to its nickname as the “People’s Republic of Lentini Island”, and the President, the Cuirpthean-Crylantian politician Heidi Meadhra, has been referred to as “Premier Meadhra”. However; the city is also known for its music and cultural scene; many vibrant yet political grafffiti pieces are shown on the walls of the city, with the Lentini Modernist Gallery displaying a collection of graffiti art, and the nation’s stand-up comedy scene and a type of music known as the Lentini Sound have gotten worldwide recognition.
