Borealia is a continent on Elezia bordered by the Siberic Ocean to the north and the Merillian Ocean to the south. The closest continents are Atusia to the east across the Triannic Strait and Parthenia to the east across the Charmelcan Channel.
Borealia covers about 5.68 million km2 (2.19 million sq mi), making it the smallest continent on Elezia. Politically, Borealia is divided into 4 sovereign states, Candaria being the largest, Hesperia being the richest and most populated, Seqoyah being the second largest and Denendeh being the smallest as well as least populated of the continent. Borealia has a population of about 246 million in 2023.
It is sometimes referred to as the "Far North" by Candarians and Denendehese due to its location in the north of the world. Also known as the "Land of Life" by the Keizaani people. It is unknown with certainty how and when the first populations arrived on Borealia, the earliest known were the Denendehese in the far north, speculated to have crossed from northern Atusia around 30,000 years ago, while the Candarians, around 15,000 ago through Parthenia. In the year 1310, a Parthenian explorer from Angland discovered the continent.
The most widely spoken language is Anglish, mostly in Seqoyah and Hesperia. The second being Kandari in Candaria. Today, Denendeh and Candaria conserve their languages and have declined multiple times to use Anglish as a national language and exchange language, which has built up tensions, especially between Candaria and Hesperia.
Geography
Borealia is located within both the western hemisphere and the eastern hemisphere, and entirely within the northern hemisphere. It's closest continental neighbours are Parthenia across the Charmelcan Channel and Atusia to the east across the Boreallic Strait. It shares maritime borders with three oceans, the Siberic Ocean to the north, the Sarosan Ocean to the west and the Merillian Ocean to the east.
The continent is also home to the Seqoyan Mountain Range, Central Kandari Mountain Range, Arijakdenhani Mountains and Black Reach Mountains. Most of the continent follows a warm summer humid continental (Dfb) climate, the far north of the continent is tundra (ET) and ice cap (EF) climates.
