The Armed Forces of Vozh (Vozhsk: Vooruzhennyye Sily Vozha), more commonly known as the Vozhsk Armed Forces
History
The modern Vozhsk armed forces can trace their heritage to the Vozhsk tribal armies such as that of Clan Vyatich. These fierce warriors were feared by the neighbouring Thuringian peoples, and secured the Vyatichi a dominant position in Northern Thuringia.
Later, after the colonization of Thuringia by the Iravian Empire, Vozhsk tribal levies, under the command of Iravian colonial officers, shouldered much of the responsibility for defending their homeland from potential threats to the west. The most famous of these units was the "Empress' Own VII Colonial Legion" raised from the Zlitsani clan in the 19th century. It saw action in numerous conflicts during the last three centuries of the Iravian monarchy.
During the Vozhsk Liberation War, the modern Vozhsk military was mustered via the merger of several civilian militias into the "National Army of the Democratic Federative Republic of Vozh". After the armistice and dissolution of the republic, its land component was renamed to the "National Army of the United Kingdoms of Vozh"
Structure
The Unified Security Forces are divided into six branches. The National Army is responsible for ground-based operations. The Naval Militia is the primary maritime force, and the Naval Infantry reports to the Navy Commissariat. The Aerospace Militia are responsible for air forces as well as near-space. The Cavalry are responsible for independent armoured and mechnized columns, though these necessarily also include dismounted infatry and artillery in support roles. The National Guard's responsibilities include national security, border patrol, and rapid response. The Gendarmerie act as both a civil and military police force.
Military Districts
During peace time, the Vozhsk military is divided into multiple military districts with different geographic areas of responsibility. The five regional commands are:
- Arctic
- Northern
- Southern
- Brecht/Smaj
- Isles
