The Armed Forces of Vozh (Vozh: Uzbrojenyja Sily Vozh) are the military forces of the United Kingdoms of Vozh. The High King is Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, appointing the Commissar of Defense. Although the Prime Minister has constitutional powers to formulate military policy in collaboration with the Defense Commissar, this is in practice done by Her Most Catholic Majesty, Viktoriya. The Unification of Command Act of 1945 merged the then-independent Commissariats of the Army, Navy, and National Guard into a single ministry, as well as making the Aerospace Forces an independent branch from the Navy.

History

The modern Vozhsk armed forces can trace their heritage to the Vozhsk tribal armies such as that of Clan Vyatich. These fierce warriors were feared by the neighbouring Halkeginian peoples, and secured the Vyatichi a dominant position in Halkeginia.

Later, after the unification of Halkeginia by the Atmoran Empire, Vozhsk tribal levies, under the command of Atmoran colonial officers, shouldered some of the responsibility for defending their homeland from potential threats to the east. The most famous of these units was The High Queen's Own 7th Voshan Rifles (Dutch: 7e Regiment Voshaanse Jagers (Hoge Koningin)) raised from the Zlitsani clan in the 19th century. It saw action in numerous conflicts during the last decades of Atmoran rule.

During the Vozhsk War of Independence, the modern Vozhsk military was mustered via the merger of several civilian militias into the "National Army of the Democratic Federative Republic of Vozh". After the armistice and dissolution of the republic, its land component was renamed to the "National Army of the United Kingdoms of Vozh".

Structure

The Armed Forces are divided into four branches; the National Army, responsible for land defense, the Royal Navy, responsible for maritime defense, the Aerospace Forces, responsible for aerial operations and the missile troops, and the Royal Guard, responsible for both military and civil policing, national security, border patrol, and rapid response. Most Vozhsk special forces units also fall under the jurisdiction of the latter three branches.
