The Saint Stefan I Bridge (Serbian: Most svetog Stefana I) is a suspension bridge that spans the river Dunav between the northern and southern part of Carigrad, the capital city of Nikolia. The bridge was designed by Nikolian architect and engineer Duder and was opened on 17th December, 1847, Nikolian national day.
It is anchored on the south side to Dunavski square, adjacent to the Aleksandrovski Hotel and the Carigrad City Hall, and on the northern side to the King Uroš I Square, which lies under the Dvorsko Brdo and the Imperial Palace of Carigrad itself.
The bridge is named after the first Nikolian Tsar, Stefan I of Nikolia which is one of the most important Nikolian historical rulers, as it was him that united the country and extended its territory to what it is today. At the time of its construction, the bridge was seen as wonder of Nikolian engineering and has asserted an enormous significance in the country's economic, social and cultural life. The bridge has been placed in ARCHO heritage site list in 1991 as part of the group of other localities in Carigrad.
