The Shield of Valour' (Englisc: Ellenscild) is a military decoration awarded by the government of Brytene, awarded to Fleet personnel killed or wounded in combat or by enemy activity.


History

The Shield of Valour, or Ellenscild, was originally literally a shield given to injured warriors or their family by their chieftain. It was traditionally made of thin beaten silver, and would either be displayed as a trophy or else sold in order to provide for the family.

The current medal was constituted in 1900.

Design

The Shield of Valour is represented by a silver round-shield, with a rim of oak leaves and stars, suspended on a blue-white-red ribbon.
