The Thegn Rede is the lower house of the government of Brytene. The Thegn Rede is the legislative branch of the Brytisc government. Its counterpart is the Witenagmot, the executive branch of the government.

Structure

The Thegn Rede consists of 502 Thegns elected from across the country who protect the interests and well-being of their constituents. Each Thegn represents roughly 125,000 constituents, and is elected annually. A Thegn's jurisdiction, or 'Riding', may vary greatly in physical area - an inner-city Thegn in Contwaraburg may only preside over a few square kilometers, whilst a Thegn in the hinterlands of Nortymba may boast several thousand square kilometers. Elections

A Grand Election is held once a year on the 20th of December, with results being announced on the 21st. Campaigns typically begin in mid November. In the event a Thegn dies, is removed from office, or is promoted to the Witenagmot, a run-off election is held.

Powers

The Thegn Rede has the power to form and introduce new bills, and may also introduce a vote of no-confidence in a member of the Witenagmot. The Thegn Rede as a whole elects governmental ministry heads from a list of publicly-nominated candidates, and these ministry heads typically introduce topics for discussion.

Composition

Thegns are allowed to form political parties, but may not switch their party during the course of their year-long term. The five major parties currently active in the Thegn Rede are the:
