Taraest was declared following the end of the Blujan-Meldair War. Which saw the Kingdom of Meldair added to the Kingdom of Blujan which declared the nation of Taraest. Taraest sought to unify all Taraesti speaking peoples, but as the country expanded numerous ethnic groups were incorporated into the country. The country joined the Galene League, during the First Great War being defeated alongside its allies in 1914 and being reduced to its modern borders. The defeat during the conflict and the harsh conditions imposed led to the brief Taraestan Civil War between 1914 and 1915, which saw King Nicolae IV abdicate and declare Taraest a Republic. Taraest would enter the Secong Great War in 1941 following Tyrnican entry into the conflict, in opposition of Palia, and Lanzism. Following victory in the conflict, Taraest remained uncommitted to foreign alliances declaring its general intention to support democracy and maintain neutrality, renouncing all claims to pre-Great War borders in 1973. Taraest has embraced the concept of Armed neutrality, since the 1970's.
Etymology
Taraest comes from the Taraesti words for "Land of the East" Tara meaning land, and Est meaning East. The name itself was given to the region during the First Sabarine Empire as a general name in the region. The Sabarine name was Oriens terra, which eventually came to be Taraest. During reunification the name Taraest was selected as it connected the country with its imperial roots, along with bringing forth the nation of a single Taraestan nation having been established during the imperial control of the country.
