Eylav (pronounced /ɜːläːv ði päːvl̩/, more commonly known as Eylav fi Paavyl, meaning "Eylav the Peaceful") was the first King of unified Vyvland, reigning from 1352, when he conquered the Duchy of Wel, until his death in 1381. Prior to this, he had been the Duke of Stanmer, which expanded greatly under Eylav's control to become the dominant power in Vyvland within five years of his ascension to the throne of Stanmer in 1321. Eylav was responsible for many significant reforms, including the creation of the Lutheran Church of Vyvland following a schism with the Lutheran Catholic Church, and the foundation of provinces similar to today's, through which he created a system of local government. His position as the first unifier of Vyvland has given him great historical importance, and many of his creations remain in some form to this day, most notably Vyvland's motto and national anthem, "Yn laan vro yses ohl". The phrase first appeared in writing on Eylav's tombstone in the form 'UIN LAND FOR UISES ÅL'.
