The Emerstarian Skille, also known as the Riksnot, is the official currency of Emerstari and its dependencies. In English, the currency is sometimes known as the shilling because Skille is Emerstarian for shilling. It is subdivided into 100 pennigarer (singular: pennigar, abbreviated: p). Several nations formerly a part of Emerstari use their own shillings, most notably Soumeland and New Retermi

History

The oldest known Emerstarian coin was found near Uppsalle and is believed to have been stuck around AD 830. Organized minting in Emerstari, however, was not introduced until the 1000s by Eirikr I. Coins during this era were primarily minted at Ljundburg and Månskilde, but also Ulgelse, Osterborg, and Rensulier. With few exceptions, nearly all these coins were of Emerstarian monarchs' portraits, names, or monograms.

In 1627, the Skille was introduced into Emerstari. A monetary union was formed between Emerstari, Coelans, Saurland, the Friedish Confederation, and Canaria in 1862. The five currencies of the union were on the gold standard with the skille/skjille/schille being defined as 1/1100 of a kilogram of gold. The union dissolved when the in 1931, but afterward, each member-state opted to keep the shilling.

Banknotes
