The CIDE RIE-20 or Rifle de Infantería del Ejército (Literally: Army Infantry Rfile) is a 5.56×45mm NATO, gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle that is produced by the government owned Center for Army Research and Development and manufactured by Galindo Heavy Industries in the Republic of Narsora.

The RIE-20 is the new standard issue service rifle of the Narsoran National Army.

Development

Since the early 2000's, the Narsoran military had been seeking a replacement for their aging infantry rifles, but were dissatisfied with options at the time. In 2010, amidst budgetary constraints, the military began the process of increasing it's domestic arms capability. Among many projects was a new infantry service rifle to replace the then thirty year old RA-80 rifle. The rifle was developed over a period of seven years and after two years of testing was officially chosen to be the army's standard issue infantry rifle in August 2019.

Design

The weapon is primarily based on the AR-15 style of rifle, though specifically tailored to the Narsoran National Army's requirements; Chiefly, the rifle is modular, with the user able to quickly change to a different barrel relatively quickly. The weapon is also lighter than previous infantry rifles, which was a complaint of many soldiers from the early 70's onward.

Variants

RIE-20 A1: This is the standard version that will be issued to front-line infantry troops and comes with a 406mm (16 in) barrel.

RIE-20C: A carbine version with a 368mm (14.5 in) barrel. To be issued to airborne units.
