The Narsoran National Army are the ground forces branch of the military and the largest with 70,000 personnel as of 2019.

History

The army was formed in 1960 along with the other branches of the military. The army has taken part in several conflicts since it's founding, both as a part of peacekeeping forces and as a direct combatant.

Structure

The Army is headed by a Chief of Staff directly appointed by the Minister of Defence. The current Chief of Staff of the Army (since November 2018) is General Hugo Quirós. The General Staff of the Army includes the Chief of Staff, a Deputy Chief of Staff and the heads of the General Staff's five departments. The current departments of the General Staff (known also by their Roman numerals) are:

  • Personnel (Department I - Personal)
  • Intelligence (Department II - Inteligencia)
  • Operations (Department III - Operaciones)
  • Logistic (Department IV - Material)
  • Finance (Department V - Finanzas)

Field Structure

As a result of recent restructuring, the army is now composed of three division sized units with varying numbers of brigades within each. There are potential plans to further decrease this number down to two divisions.

The army is divided into three divisions (includes both combat troops and support elements):

  • 1st Infantry Division - Oldest unit in the military, full strength of 25,000 personnel.
  • 2nd Infantry Division - Full strength of 25,000 personnel.
  • 3rd Infantry Division - 20,000 personnel.
