The Asgarthian Civil War also known as The War of the Griffins is an ongoing multi-sided civil war in Asgareth fought between the Asgarthian Military led by General Ako Perca, against several claimants to the Asgarthian throne and several resistance groups.

The war began following the Bombing of Asgar House on 28th March 2086, which resulted in the deaths of several key Asgarthian leaders including General Edmund de’Lance, the self-proclaimed Pharaoh of Origin. Hours later, the Battle of Shang Palace occurred, resulting in the death of Yulta Ross.

The war is being fought between multiple factions, including but not limited to; the Asgarthian military, Basok Alt’s loyalist forces, the Delvorni Independence Movement, the Shangese Movement for Independence, The Red Front, and three different factions led by different branches of the House of Ross. These various factions are backed by a variety of nations and governments including Skjoldur, Kaiserrealm and Greater Slavacia.

The Asgarthian military seek to maintain martial law in Asgareth, after it was instated by General de’Lance following the death of Daniel Ross. Both the Delvorni Independence Movement and the Shangese Movement for Independence seek autonomy for the Epiloan Islands and Isles of Archon respectively, and are in something of a loose alliance. The Red Front seeks to implement democratic socialism within the Empire. Meanwhile, Basok Alt, Leximus Ross, Yulta Ross and Regana Ross have all claimed the right to rule Asgareth.

The Harrenese Civil War

In July 2066, the fascist dictator of Harren Island, Premier Balthazar was ousted by his people. Within days, three separate factions had formed namely the Port Cities, the Heartlands and the Hegemony. As the war progressed, other factions formed with the final two being formed by the Confederacy (consisting of Asgareth, Rome and Skjoldur) and the Entente (consisting of Valyrien, Myraxia, Iryllia and Aurum).

The Bombing of Palace de Esgar

On 28th March 2068 (AST), Axic Ross and Iona de Guise married on the grounds of Palace de Esgar. Following the ceremony, a reception was held where various guests from around the world celebrated into the night. Just as the clock struck 11pm, a bomb detonated in the Great Hall. While the Imperiali managed to escape safely, along with many other dignitaries, including Jacques de Guise, others were trapped beneath the rubble. Axic and Iona Ross were among the first to be found under the rubble. Iona had emerged relatively unscathed quite possibly due to Axic’s apparent shielding of her. For his part, Axic was bleeding profusely from the chest and leg. Medical crews swiftly took the pair away in separate ambulances, but by 1am, Axic was medically confirmed dead, something that was only officially confirmed 2 days later. Search and rescue efforts continued throughout the night. Luxus Ross, the youngest son of the Imperiali, helped to lead the rescue efforts and it was he who pulled his brother Danri Ross from the rubble, alive, just after 4am. It would later emerge that Danri had sustained permanent paralysis from the waist down. The body of Julia Barry, Minister for Domestic Affairs, was discovered under the large chandelier at around 5:30am. President Maxim Andreevich Borodin of Greater Slavacia was the last to be found at 3pm the next day. He was amongst the most seriously ill, and drifted in and out of consciousness on the ride to hospital. Upon arrival, the decision was taken to induce him into a coma; one that would last for 3 months. The Slavacian government were not informed about this until several months later. Suspicion for the bombing swiftly fell on Basok Alt, but his guilt has never been proven.

Battle of Shang Palace

Considered to be the opening act of hostilities in the civil war, the battle of Shang Palace in Strei-Ar saw the death of the strongest claimant to the throne of Asgar: Yulta Ross. It involved elements of the 20th Ground Force opposed by the palace guard. After several hours, all defenders were killed. However, Yulta's wife, Octavia Julia as well as her children escaped trough the passage. Some historians claim that Yulta's death was self sacrificial in nature, as he is said to have stayed behind to seal the exit with his body.

The attack on Terminal 7 claimed 3749 lives. 1720 Asgarthians, 579 Skjoldurians, 485 Elves, 339 Romans, 201 Slavacians, 143 Heartfilians, 69 Acadians, 60 Arcyrskians, 65 Jiqazi, 46 Harrense, 41 Caerleggi and 1 Delvori died in the attack.

Flight AS-5928 crashed into a field, killing all 584 passengers and crew on board. By nationality, deaths were recorded as: 362 Asgarthians, 133 Romans, 33 Skjoldurians, 20 Shangese, 17 Elves, 13 Heartfilians, 3 Acadians, 3 Harrenites and 2 Slavacians

The attack on New Esgar University claimed the lives of 385 students and staff. By nationality, deaths were recorded as: 195 Asgarthians, 121 Delvori, 37 Arcyrskians 13 Heartfilians, 12 Romans, 5 Slavacians, 2 Acadians
