Tagai Chulgetei (born Tagai Baihingor; 12 May 1947 – 22 January 1983; aged 35) was a Zalyk guerrilla fighter and independence activist who was the leader of the Fathers of Zalykia movement that led a large insurgency in Zalykia during the Sostava War in the early 1980s. Observers of Chulgetei and those who have studied the conflict have referred to him as one of the greatest guerrilla generals in history, having led a four-year resistance movement with significantly less men that the Narozalic armies. A Badist and ardent socialist, Chulgetei often took ideological inspiration from Dezevau and the Dezevauni Section of the Workers' International for his post-war model of Zalyk independence.
Born in Yashkul in 1947, Chulgetei was fascinated by the military from an early age. He changed his surname to Chulgetei in 1957 and later attended the University of Iki-Barul from 1965 to 1968, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. Chulgetei worked as a military engineer in Zalykia for most of the 1970s, manufacturing armoured vehicles and tanks for the Narozalic Army before being laid off in 1978. As the Sostava War began, Chulgetei founded the Fathers of Zalykia guerrilla movement and launched a province-wide resistance movement against the pre-war and post-war governments. At its height, Chulgetei and his guerrillas controlled around 60% of the province and had over 40,000 fighters. Developing his socialist ideology throughout the war, Chulgetei's movement is often seen as the most successful socialist movement in Narozalica, and was in the process of negotiating independence with the government of Vilem Gardos before he fled in 1982. The Zalyk guerrilla movement lost territory to the Partisans under Sava Tokar in 1982 before Chulgetei was assassinated by a PDP sniper in Yalmta in 1983, with the war ending two weeks later.
Within Narozalica, teachings of Chulgetei are heavily regulated and monitored by the government, however internationally, especially among Badi and socialist communities, Chulgetei is regarded extremely positively in his attempts to establish Zalyk independence despite the overwhelming odds.
