Jago Arthur Elliot, sometimes refered to as J. A. Elliot, (born 28th October, 1975) is a Satavian politician, author and former Journalist who has served as Prime Minister of Satavia since August 2020, following the 2020 Satavian General Election, where he became the first Conservative Prime Minister since 1924, 96 years earlier. He has served as the Member of Parliament for Port Hope East since 2014, and was the shadow Foreign Minister from 2015-2016, until his elevation to leader of the Conservative Party and the de facto leader of the opposition.
Elliot was born in the capital of Estmere, Morwall, in 1975 to his Satavian father and Estmerish mother. His Father, the then Ambasador of Satavia to Estmere was a senior diplomat in the Satavian Foreign Ministry. His mother, who was from Estmere, had met his father when he was posted to Estmere in 1973. They married in 1974. Elliot achieved a first in History from Port Hope University, one of the most prestigous universities in Satavia. Elliot wrote for the Hope Post (commonly called The Post, the most widely circulated newspaper in Satavia, becoming it's Foreign Correspondent in 1998, at the age of twenty three. In 2001, he became Editor of the Post, before leaving in 2008 to become a politician. During his time as Editor of the Post, Elliot released a series of best selling non-fiction Historical Books, starting with the Satavian Colonisation up to the end of the Satavian Crisis.
Before 2015, Elliot had not held any shadow cabinet posts, before being appointed as Shadow Foreign Minister. In 2016, he left the role to become the Leader of the Conservative Party. He also united the various smaller centre and centre-right parties to become the de facto leader of the opposition, controlling the second most votes in Parliament after the Government [3]. In 2020, he lead the Conservatives to a suprise landslide victory, securing the largest majority since 1964.
Early Life
Elliot was born in Morwall, in Estmere on the 28th October, 1975. His father, Arthur Elliot, was a senior diplomat and civil servent who served as ambassador to Estmere from 1973-1983, with a brief interruption in October 1976, when he was unexpectedly appointed as Caretaker Prime Minister. Elliot would remain in Estmere untill 1983, when Republican Paramilitaries, such as the Republican Free Army, and Monarchist Paramilitaries reached a cease fire with the Satavian Government. Upon his return to Satavia at age 13, Elliot gained a Scholarship to a Private School, from where, at age 18, he went to King's College Jago, where he achieved a first (A) in History and recieved a minor in Journalism. He joined the Hope Post in 1998, and because of his prior experience and "excellent writing abilites", he was appointed as one of the paper's Foreign Correspondents later that year. In 2001, he became editor of the paper, following his nomination by outgoing editor James Craig. In 2008, he stood, succesfully, for election as MP for Arthur's Point West.
Political Career
Elliot stood and was elected as MP for Arthur's Point West in the 2008 Satavian General Election. He would remain as MP for Arthur's Point West until the 2014 General Election, when Elliot stood as MP for Port Hope East, becoming their MP. In 2015, he was given the opposition role of Shadow Foreign Minister. He stepped down from that role in 2016, to become leader of the Conservative Party. His efforts to unite the parliamentry votes of the smaller, centre to centre-right parties saw his elevation to de facto leader of the opposition, as the Conservative Party controlled the second most seats in Parliament. In the August 2020 General Election, he unexpectedly scored a landslide victory, becoming Satavia's first Conservative PM for 96 years.
2020 Election Victory
In 2020, Elliot campaigned succesfully to become Prime Minister, becoming the first Conservative Prime Minister since Arthur O'Connell in 1924. He also secured one of the largest majorities since 1976, securing 142 seats out of the 249 avaliable seats. His election also split the other larger parties; leaving the second biggest party, the SDP, with 37 seats.
2020 Satavia cannabis referendum
On the 10 November 2020, Elliot announced that he would hold a cannabis referendum [4] on the 30th December 2020 - thereby sticking to a campaign promise made whilst in Port Arthur-Fort Kinnon. Political Commentator James McCorn, writing for The Hope Post, said that Elliot's pledge to hold this referendum won him the central, usual 'SDP voters'.
Author
As an Author, Elliot has released four books, all to critical acclaim in Satavia. Three are non-fiction historical works, whilst one is a historical fiction, set during the Great War in Estmere.

Port Elliot
Port Elliot, a small town in rural Satavia, is the historic home of the Elliot family and is near Fortelliot (all one word), a small vilage where Fort Elliot is located. Port Elliot was owned privately by the Elliot family until 1896, when it was sold to the Government of the Hope Dominion. Fortelliot is still owned by the Elliot family.
Lord Elliot
His father, Arthur Elliot, is a heriditary peer, and is officially the Lord Elliot. However, upon his death, and in accordance with the Standardisation and Regulation of Heriditary Titles and Honours, 2017, his title will be downgraded and then passed onto Elliot. Elliot will then become Earl Elliot.
