The Green Party (Miersan: Partia zielonych) is a political party which operates in the Miersan Federation. Established in 1985 by environmental activist Borysław Grodzicki, the Green Party sought to advocate for the protecting of West Miersa's environment.

While initially unsuccessful in gaining seats in the 1986 and 1991 general elections, under Ilona Malczewska's leadership, the Green Party was able to make a breakthrough into national politics in 1996, gaining two seats, making it the first political party led by a woman to gain representation in the National Assembly.

History

Ideology

The Green Party's ideology is based on green politics. To this end, the Green Party is a supporter of the four pillars (ecological wisdom, social justice, grassroots democracy, and non-violence).

Economically, the Green Party supports a green economy, and to reduce West Miersa's reliance on fossil fuels. It opposes privatization of government-owned companies, although it is critical of nationalization.

Socially, it has tended towards progressive policies, with the Green Party supporting legalizing abortion up to 12 weeks for any reason, as well as recognizing civil unions between same-sex couples.

In terms of foreign policy, the Green Party has supported a peaceful solution to "the Miersan situation," with Ilona Malczewska saying in 2006 that "if elected President," the Greens would negotiate "a final lasting peace" with East Miersa.

Structure

Due to the party's adherence of grassroots democracy, the Green Party has the membership directly elect all positions within the party.
