Adtrus (/ædtɹuːs/; Vierz: Adtrüs [aːtryːs]) is the capital and largest city of Vierzland. It is also a federal state officially called the Adtrus Capital Region (Vierz: Adtrüs Hauptstadtregion). With a population of 5.1 million, the city is the most-populous in Vierzland and the second-most in Patyria behind Belens.
Adtrus is located on the banks of the Lanbach River in north-central Vierzland. The city was founded as a small fishing village in the 15th century, and by 1750 had reached a population of approximately 50,000. It was made the capital of the newly-formed Vierz Empire in 1766 as a compromise between the western Vierz Kingdom and the eastern Vierz League due to its neutral, central location. Its population exploded due to the industrial revolution and economic growth, becoming Vierzland's largest city with a population of 491,046 by 1850.
Adtrus is a global city and is the paramount political, cultural, and academic center of Vierzland. The city is the seat of the Federal Assembly, the Chancellery, the supreme courts, every federal ministry, and over 100 foreign embassies and consulates. It houses the headquarters of the Vierz Community, the Vierz Language Organization, the National Institute of the Arts, and the Vierzland Television and Film Association. The Constantine University of Adtrus, the Free University of Adtrus, the National Political Institute, and the Adtrus University of Science and Technology are all located in the city.
The city's economy is largely based on international commerce, creative industries, information technology, and biotechnology. Adtrus is both a national and international transportation hub, with Adtrus Capital Airport being one of the busiest international airports in the world. Vierzland's flag carrier Veisic Airlines is headquartered in Adtrus. Adtrus Central Station is the hub of the extensive Adtrus Metro and the national railway network.
