Chief Qadi Mehmet Ibn Suleiman Effendi I was an Ottoman (and later Sharifistani) Islamic scholar and Sharifistani Qadi (judge) who became the the second Chief Qadi of Sharifistan in 1972. He is the grandfather of Chief Qadi Mehmet Ibn Suleiman Effendi II

Early life

Born in August the 3rd 1912, the son of [Mufti Suleiman Effendi (Islamic scholar)|Mufti Suleiman Effendi]] and his wife, Hanim Aisha Effendi in Sipahi şehir, the capital of the Ottoman Sipahistan province (which later became Sharifistan), Mehmet Ibn Suleiman Effendi excelled in both his primary and secondary education.

University education

Mehmet Ibn Suleiman Effendi attended Al-Azhar University at the age of 18, leaving with an Ijazah in 1933. He was well-respected in his class and had a special aptitude for Islamic law.

Military service

In 1933, after graduating from Al-Azhar, Mehmet Ibn Suleiman Effendi joined the Royal Legal Corps of the Royal Sharifistani Army, leaving in 1945 at the rank of Muqaddam (Lieutenant-Colonel).

Judicial service

In 1952, he was appointed judge in the Muslim Millet. He was known for the fairness of his rulings. He became a High Court judge in 1962 and Chief Qadi of Sharifistan in 1972.
