The DHB Type 35 is an off-road vehicle manufactured by DHB. It is used by Anikatian military and police, as well as by numerous allied countries throughout Pardes and has now been offered as a civilian version since 2002. In the DSRA, it also saw widespread service in all state organisations that needed a robust off-road vehicle. It is produced in a number of different body styles and lengths, the including but not limited to a short wheel base soft-top, short wheel base hard-top, long wheel base utility, long wheel base cab-chassis, and long wheel base soft-top and hard-top. The basic original version is a traditional two door short wheel base with a soft top and is powered by a petrol inline straight 6 engine or a diesel 4 cylinder engine. It can be mounted with various light or heavy machine guns and anti-tank missile launchers. There is also a special 6×6 variant which was originally produced for the Anikatian military as a long range patrol vehicle. It had been under continuous production by DHB since 1971, Over 40,000 vehicles have been delivered in over 50 versions for the Anikatian Ground Force alone. Despite major changes in styling and numerous technological updates, the Type 35 was designed to retain the off-road capabilities and durability for which it has become renowned.

History

The Type 35 was conceived by the DHB during late colonial period. The Anikatian government fearful of becoming cut off from supplies from the Belfras homeland decided that domestic production of military equipment was a priority. The Anikatian colonial government told local automotive manufacturers to produce a light truck for colonial defence. At the same time Aksel Kaya, DHB's chief designer came up with a plans to produce a light agricultural and utility vehicle, thus in late 1969 DHB produced a prototype vehicle. The half-ton prototype truck featured an upright front grille, flat front wheel arches that angled down and back, headlights mounted above the wheel arches on either side of the radiator, and a folding windshield. For these respective pre-production runs, the prototype vehicles were given the number code designations, the DHB design thus became the Type 35. The 1967 Revolution led to disruption to the initial production plans and the prototypes became government property were given extensive year long testing by the military and then the design was approved for full scale production as the main military vehicle.

The first production of the Type 35, known as the DHB Type 35 Mark I was build from 1971 until 1980 for the DSRA and for export to foreign governments, mainly KosCo forces. Offered with only two powerplant options a powerful 3.4L 3A I6 petrol engine and a smaller 2.2L 2H I4 diesel mated to a DT354 4-speed manual main transmission with a 2-speed manual transfer gearbox and selectable 4-wheel drive. This first generation vehicles were offered in only as a soft-top and hard top version on a 2,380 mm wheelbase. The vehicle was to perform in all theatres of operation of the Anikatian Military, it was also considered important that a locally made vehicle was produced as their was concern over becoming cut off and to reduce foreign expenditure. As part of international export plans, DHB were given permission to use the design for a simplified civilian version to be sold abroad. This version, designated DHB Type 35CV (for "Civilian-Vehicle") Mark I was only sold with petrol engine option. It was primarily intended for farming, ranching, and industrial applications, and thus kept the same basic spartan interiors of the military version. From 1974 until 1979 was on sale and it attracted a number of customers, the great majority of these being from KosCo allies where they were generally sold to customers in rural areas. A limited number being ending up being sold to farms to help with the national production.

PredecessorDHB Type 35 Mark I
SuccessorDHB Type 35 Mark III

The Type 35 Mark II first appeared in 1980 and was build until 1995, it also saw widespread service in all state organisations that needed a off-road vehicle. During its long life span many wide variety of different body style was made for and power plants were into introduced with this model. While there were few cosmetic changes this variant saw the additions of the 2,850 mm long wheelbase models and mechanically, the vehicle was virtually identical to the first-generation initially carrying over the Same 3.4L 3A I6 petrol engine and the 2.2L 2H I4 diesel. However there were a number of cost saving measures and simplification to the design implemented in this second generation. This allowed three great advantages: It was very cheap to produce, able to drive in virtually any terrain and it was very easy to repair. For 1991 the design saw its most significant update with a new, larger 5F4D2 5-speed transmission and transfer case. The venerable 2H I4 diesel finally being replaced with a brand new all aluminium K-Engine a 2.5L 2K-TDI Turbo-diesel I4 while the 3A I6 remained it was revamped and modernized with a single point fuel injection and catalytic converters were specified in an attempt to keep up with emissions legislation. The Mark II also marked the last of the carbureted engine variants as tightening safety and emissions legislation led to a shift to fuel injection on all models from 1991 onwards. 1994 saw the introduction of a 3.0L version of the K-Engine with the 3K-TDI Turbo-diesel I4 along with some mechanical upgrades, essentially consisting of improvements to the transmission.

PredecessorDHB Type 35 Mark II

The Type 35 Mark III had the same body and engine options as the late model preceding Mark II, including all body styles. Little changed cosmetically, however this version underwent even greater modernisation, to met new industrial standards, improvements were made to the designs emissions, fuel economy and off-road ability. The Mark III also saw the introduction of a third wheelbase to its utility line-up with two new 6x6 military variants. The 6x6 variants were developed for use by the military to patrol remote regions of Anikatia. The simple metal dashboard of earlier models was redesigned to accept a new molded plastic dash. The instrument cluster, which was previously centrally located, was moved to the driver's side. Suspension was vastly improved with the switch from leaf spring to a coil spring setup, though the live axles were retained. This offered improved off-road ability, load capacity, handling, and ride comfort.

PredecessorDHB Type 35 Mark III

The chassis was significantly revised for 2000, and resulted in the new Pioneer known officially as the DHB Pioneer. Equipped with an improved suspension system, a totally upgraded interior which modernised the dashboard layout from the earlier models with a full-width fascia and array of different instrumentation. These changes also included different exterior styling graphics and colour options, and the introduction of new options, such as radio-cd players, styled wheels, headlamp wash and wipe systems, as well as accessories such as bike racks. This model also saw a range of new engine choices. The Pioneer represented the shift towards catering to the civilian market. Outwardly, there is little to distinguish the post-1995 vehicles from the Mark III DHB Type 35 military vehicles. The Type 35 was originally not available for purchase by the public, but many were sold as surplus to private owners during the collapse of the DSRA, many had previously found their way into private hands across Pardes. Throughout the 2000s the vehicle attempted to climb more and more upmarket, while remaining true to its rugged military roots. This trend was epitomised by the introduction of the limited edition models, such as the SLX-35 in 2007 with alloy wheels and metallic paint, equipped with automatic transmission, air conditioning and range of 4.2-litre V8 engines with a twin turbo option.
