The Goredemabwan Defence Force (GDF) consists of the Goredemabwan National Army, Goredemabwan Naval Force, and the Goredemabwan National Air Force. The GDF is designed primarily for internal defence in Goredemabwa, it was created when Goredemabwa gained independence from Myrdesia in 1980, originally formed as the Goredemabwan People's Army.

Purpose

The main roles of the Goredemabwan Defence Force is to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country by guarding against external aggression, both conventional and unconventional; prevent violation of Gordemabwa's territorial integrity; and provide assistance to civil authorities in guarding and protecting government buildings and key installations.

History

At the time of independence, the then leader Massawa Eyob declared that integrating the three armed forces would be one of Goredemabwa's top priorities. The existing Myrdesian Army was combined with the two guerrilla armies; the 35,000-strong Goredemabwan Liberation Front (GLF) forces and the 14,000-strong Socialist Workers' Party (SWP) forces. The DSRA a pivotal role in assisting the creation of the new army, and later Anikatia was still major influence in organisation and operation of the military.

Organization and structure

The Chief Of Defence Force is the highest-ranking officer and exercises overall command of the force.

Army

The ground forces of the Defence force is the Goredemabwan National Army it is also the largest of the GDF's arms of services.

Air Force

The Goredemabwan Air Force is relatively small, but was contains small numbers of some advanced fighter aircraft types.

Navy

Development of the Goredemabwan Navy has been slow, and hampered by lack of training and funds. Today, it numbers over 800 personnel and deploys a small number of lightly armed patrol vessels. Extensive Anikatian aid assisted in its development.
