Chiaki Uchigane as depicted in the series

Chiaki Uchigane (Miranian: 千晶 打鉄; Gylic transcription: Caki Ucigane) is a Gylimanga series. Created by Ren Satō, it was first published on Telecomix in 2012. It is a work of political pornography that satirises the National Reconstruction Alliance.

Plot

Chiaki Uchigane is an ambitious, scheming, and lecherous member of ARENA. In the beginning, she is a newly-elected member of the Gylian Chamber of Deputies. The series follows her cunning schemes to rise to the top of Gylian politics, which include copious use of her feminine wiles and BDSM-tinged sex scenes.

The series ends on a punchline: Chiaki becomes Prime Minister of Gylias, only to realise that she was so fixated on rising to the top that she hadn't thought about what she would actually do once she got there. As a result, her term as Prime Minister simply continues the policies of her predecessor, except with more posturing and spin.

Background

Chiaki Uchigane was created by the pseudonymous author Ren Satō — a Miranian placeholder name equivalent to John Smith — and first published on Telecomix in 2012.

The series satirises ARENA, here personified by a wickedly appealing politician willing to do anything to reach the top, except have an actual plan of what to do there. Chiaki's comically "wicked" schemes to advance politically, without harming others or losing audience sympathy, grow increasingly over-the-top, leading to the final punchline of her becoming Prime Minister and realising she has absolutely no clue what to do after her achievement.

The conclusion shows her doing little as Prime Minister but thinking of ways to maintain her "wicked" image in the face of the day-to-day challenges of the office.

Reception

Chiaki Uchigane gained notoriety on the Gylian internet, due to the attractive design of Chiaki and its lampooning of ARENA as an ultimate "style over substance" party, obsessed with little more than maintaining its own image. The manga spawned several memes illustrating this aspect.
