Frank Casarnach (born 5 November 1949) is a Glytteronian politician and is a member of the Liberty Party. He is the TC for Bulfawst North and has held the post since 2007. In December of 2014, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs by Taoiseach Alexis Walker after the retirement of his predecessor. His tenure as Foreign Minister came to a close following the cabinet reshuffle of Taoiseach Jimmy O'Reilly following the 2017 Comhthionól election.
Casarnach studied business management at Kings University Bulfawst. He was soon employed by the Glytteronian state oil company, RPG. He served as COO of RPG from 2000 to 2006. In 2007, ran for the Comhthionól Náisiúnta in his native North Bulfawst constituency. He was appointed Minister of Petroleum in 2012.
The retirement of Toran O'Ryder in 2014 allowed Taoiseach Walker to chose a new Foreign Minister. Walker opted for Casarnach, who was seen as a controversial and unconventional choice. His appointment was heavily criticised by the Greens who did not believe a petroleum executive should service as Glytter's top diplomat. Casarach remains a controversial figure internationally. Known for his sometimes populist rhetoric, he has gotten into several high profile diplomatic spats with foreign officials. He was temporarily suspended from the post after his comments regarding religious conservatives and Asterian president Ronald White were leaked to the press. As Minister of Foreign Affairs, Casarnach has continued the enforce the Walker Doctrine.
He was the primary challenger to incumbent Liberty Party leader Jimmy O'Reilly in the party's March 2017 leadership race to replace the outgoing Alexis Walker. Casarnach was knocked out of the race on the eighth ballot after O'Reilly achieved majority support.
