The Queen Anelyn-class is a class of nuclear-powered warship of the Cacertian Royal Navy and is the most advanced class of vessel currently in service with the Cacertian Military. The lead ship of its class, the HMS Anelyn Trento, was declared as the Navy's new flagship following her christening on 6 August 2013.

In the 1970s, the Royal Navy commissioned its shipbuilders to design and construct a new class of battleship with the first class of this initiative resulting in the Empress Elliana-class which was seen as a transitory build in anticipation for a more modern warship.

The design process took several decades and utilized data gathered from the HMS Sara Vazzana which saw combat during the Refusal War. The finished product resulted in a heavy nuclear-powered missile-capable battleship that possessed the ability to engage all forms of sea-faring vessels from varying ranges. In order to speed up the process, different parts of the HMS Anelyn Trento were built in separate shipyards and sent to Fumicino where construction was finalized.

Both the class and lead ship are named after Cacerta's current monarch, Queen Anelyn I.

Design

The design phase of the Queen Anelyn-class battleships began in 1986—then known as Battleship Project 1986—under the close supervision of the Cacertian Military's High Command. While the Andrea Doria-class battleships had been sufficiently modernized, the Royal Navy required a new vessel designed with present-day technologies in mind. The initial blueprints of the BP86s were rejected due to their focus on large-caliber guns much like their predecessors and in 1990 the project was scrapped in favor of the new Destroyer Programs.

Following the rise of Queen Anelyn I to power, the Cacertian military—despite satisfaction with the ships that came out of the Destroyer Programs—brought to her attention the aging battleships currently in service. After a year of pulling through some old files, Anelyn revived the BP86 program and a design was finalized in 2009 with the Anelyn's keel laid down in 2010.

Armament

Unlike the previous battleship designs of the Royal Navy that focused on medium to large caliber guns, the Queen Anelyn-class of ships were built around the idea of a massive combat-capable missile platform. As per tradition, and the need for weapons systems in the event that her missile guidance computers were damaged, the Anelyn was outfitted with six 420mm naval guns in two triple-gun turrets located fore and aft. The new RN-SMBI naval guns are capable of firing their shells to a maximum distance of 40,000 meters.

The Anelyn battleships are armed with a vast array of missiles that allow it to virtually engage all forms of enemy land, sea, and aircraft at extreme ranges. With its flexibility in weaponry, the Queen Anelyn-class is able to operate as a standalone vessel in a variety of roles ranging from ground support, submersible hunting, and ship-to-ship combat.

Propulsion

The Queen Anelyn warships are the first battleship-class vessels of the Royal Navy that run entirely on nuclear propulsion, her christening marked a milestone in Cacertian Naval engineering. While she is not the first nuclear-powered warship in the navy, the Queen Anelyn-class is one of the largest ships post-Helarian War to be put to sea and is only beaten in total tonnage by the Royal Navy's King Doriano and Duchess Mariella supercarriers.

The two Mark VII nuclear reactors are housed near the ships stern in two separate compartments. They each power a single propeller shaft that can produce a speed of 38 knots at optimal efficiency. In combat situations, the reactors can be pushed past 100 percent for higher speeds, but this risks damage to the ship's core and is not recommended.

Due to being nuclear-powered, the ships of the Queen Anelyn-class are able to operate without refueling for approximately 30 years and are expected to serve in the Navy for six to seven decades.

Current Status

As of March 2014, three ships of the Queen Anelyn-class have been completed. The first vessel—the HMS Anelyn Trento—is currently registered with the Royal Navy's 1st Carrier Strike Fleet. The second ship—which has been confirmed as the Amadea Conti—is serving as the command vessel for the 4th Carrier Strike Fleet. The most recent vessel has been named Ayalla Trento in honor of the Queen's young daughter.
