Alessandro Padovan Malvezzi (born 15 January 1970) is a Brazilian politician, urban planner, and businessman currently serving as the 40th President of the Federal Republic of Brazil. Alessandro Malvezzi previously served as Federal Deputy for the state of Santa Catarina from 2009 to 2019, where he rose to national prominence as a member of the Social Democratic Party. Alessandro Malvezzi also served as Secretary of Urban Development under the Santos Cabinet and Municipal Secretary of Housing for the city of São Paulo. Malvezzi also served as State Deputy for São Paulo for one term, from 2005 to 2009.

Born in 1970 in an upper-class family of Italian background, Alessandro's dream was to be a football player. His dreams, however, were not materialized, and as such his father forced Alessandro to attend the University of São Paulo, considered the best university of Brazil by the Ministry of Education. Malvezzi graduated in 1983 with a degree in Urban Planning and Development. In the same year, Malvezzi joined the business his father owned, the Malvezzi Architecture Company. There, Malvezzi acquired several contacts that allowed him to pursue a career in politics, being appointed as Secretary of Housing of the city of São Paulo by mayor Fernando Chagas.

Despite being an outsider and newcomer to politics, Malvezzi quickly adjusted to the system and was welcomed by the "Old Order", the group of well-established politicians of Brazil. Considered an ally of the Old Order, Malvezzi ran for state deputy for São Paulo in the 2004 state elections, being elected with 54,000 votes. The relatively-unknown Malvezzi quickly became a widely known figure, and in 2008 he ran for Federal deputy, representing the state of São Paulo. Malvezzi was elected with 103,000 votes, almost the double votes he got in his first election.

A fierce opponent to the Brazilian Communist Party, Alessandro Malvezzi was one of the main articulators of the 2012 Motion of No Confidence, which resulted in the dissolution of the Pereira Cabinet. Alessandro also was involved in several corruption charges, such as kickbacks and nepotism. In the face of such charges, he was expelled from the Social Democratic Party in 2017. Despite running without the support of a political party, Alessandro Malvezzi was re-elected for a third consecutive term as Federal Deputy for São Paulo in 2018, being one of the four independent candidates elected to the Chamber of Deputies. In 2019 Malvezzi was appointed as Secretary of Urban Development for the Santos Cabinet.

In 2020 he announced his intention to run as a candidate for the presidential election. Running on a platform of "tough on crime", Malvezzi was elected in the second round with 53% of the votes, defeating Flávio Cardozo from the Liberal Party. As president of Brazil, Malvezzi was a pivotal character of the2022 Brazilian Political Crisis. He was responsible for appointing Giovanna Gottschalk as Prime Minister, who in turn managed to lead the National Reorganization League to victory in the 2022 Extraordinary Election. Giovanna also is widely regarded as responsible for ending the 2022 Political Crisis. Despite his surge in popularity following the end of the Political Crisis, his involvement in corruption charges has irreversibly affected his public image.
