Giovanna Zanetti Gottschalk (born 12 October 1978) is a Brazilian politician, activist, internet star, singer, musician, and bureaucrat currently serving as the 12th Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Leader and founder of the Technocratic and Nationalist Front for Reorganization of the Brazilian Social Order (Frente Tecnocrática-Nacionalista de Reorganização da Ordem Social Brasileira - FRETECNA-ROSOB). Giovanna Gottschalk previously served as State Deputy of the state of Santa Catarina from 2014 to 2022. Giovanna Gottschalk is considered to be a pioneer in Internet Activism in Brazil, using her status as a NewTube star to promote her ideals. While she failed to be elected to the Federal Senate in 2010, Giovanna attracted nationwide attention for her new campaign methods, thus successfully running for the Chamber of Deputies of her home state, Santa Catarina, in 2014. In 2018 Giovanna was re-elected, being the most voted candidate in Santa Catarina.
Born in 1978 in a working-class family of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Giovanna wanted to be a professor. However, despite being admitted into the Federal University of Santa Catarina at the age of 19, Giovanna dropped college after the second semester to pursue a career as a musician. In college, she became involved with politics, joining the youth ranks of the Brazilian Communist Party. By 2004 she grew disillusioned with the PCB's radicalism, and as result, she departed for the Brazilian Socialist Party. In 2005, after seeing that her carrer as a musician wasn't fruitful, Giovanna passed an entrance exam for the bureaucratic apparatus of the state of Santa Catarina, where she worked as a secretary. In 2007 Giovanna created her NewTube channel, where she shared videos about music. Thanks to her almost perfect covers of pop and rock songs, Giovanna obtained fame and began writing her own songs, recording her songs as an independent artist under the nickname "Gio".
In 2009, after the Brazilian Socialist Party joined the coalition led by the Brazilian Communist Party, Giovanna left party as an act of protest. In the same year she announced her intention of becoming a Senator "to rid the country of the Old Corrupt Order". Using the internet as her main campaign platform, Giovanna managed to be the runner-up for the senate seat of Santa Catarina. In 2012 Giovanna left her job to work full-time on her singer career. In 2014 Giovanna was among the founders of the National Reorganization League, a self-proclaimed "nationalistic and syncretic" party. In the same year, she ran for state deputy of Santa Catarina, obtaining 78,000 votes, thus being the most voted candidate in that state. In 2022 she was appointed as Prime Minister by President Alessandro Malvezzi amidst the 2022 Brazilian Political Crisis.
Despite promising to rid the country of corruption, Giovanna has been accused by the opposition of complacency with the corruption accusations of her ministers and close allies. Gottschalk also has been criticized by the media for her "flip-flop politics", suddenly changing opinions. Former allies of Giovanna Gottschalk calls the prime minsiter as an opportunist. Former defense minister Paulino Meneses describes Giovanna as a "political chamaleon, capable of altering her form and colors according to the situation and the benefits she would reap."
Early Life
Giovanna Zanetti Gottschalk was born on the 12th day of October 1978. Her father, Alberto Gottschalk, was a machine operator at a automobile factory. Her mother, Cristina Zanetti, worked as a teller in a bank. At the age of 18 Giovanna graduated from high school. At the age of 19, Giovanna passed the entrance exam of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, where she attempted to pursue a degree in history - her childhood dream job was to be a professor. However, at college Giovanna discovered another passion - Music. After learning how to compose electronic songs, Giovanna dropped out of college and began her career as a musician under the name of "DJ Giulia". She created Techno and Dance songs, which were all the rage in Brazil at the moment. Although her songs were well received by the critics, her career simply did not take off, perhaps due to a lack of advertising, or due to the oversaturation of the genre.
Entry in Politics
Giovanna joined the world of politics when she still was a college student, joining the youth ranks of the Brazilian Communist Party (the PCB). However, as Giovanna grew older, she became more and more doubtful of the party's capability of starting a class war (as proposed by the PCB leadership). As such, she joined the Brazilian Socialist Party in 2004. In 2005 Giovanna abandoned her career in the music industry. She began working as a bureaucrat for the state of Santa Catarina, thus obtaining a stable job which paid better than her previous profession.
