The National Constabulary of Cadenza (Khadenz: Tarzez Metareg ti'Khade) is the police force of Cadenza. The service is headed by the somethingsomething Commissioner who is appointed by the government. Its headquarters are on Grand Avenue in Cadenza.

Origins

Historically in Cadenza, each earldom administered justice and organised police forces who only had jurisdiction within the earldom's borders. In principle the courts applied the same legal code across the country, but there was great disparity between police forces in terms of their power and predisposition toward addressing crime. Outside of the capital and the earldoms of Canveg and Tevro, earldoms struggled to fund and equip constables to police the empty plains and mountainsides. For example, the Ducal Guard, which policed the capital, enjoyed strict oversight and was much better equipped than the Lemithran Constabulary overseeing rural Lemithri, while the Roakkon Civil Police was notoriously open to bribery and selective enforcement. There were major campaigns for reform beginning as early as the 1840s, but reform at a national level was not taken seriously before 1890, when the Penevir Scandal broke in Roakkon. Timiet Penevir, Commissioner of the Civil Police, was ousted from his office amid massive protests in Ro'ekha and furore in the Greater Council. The government proposed sweeping reform to take place by 1895, but it was delayed by the outbreak of the Trellinese Civil War. In the interim, minor reforms were made within individual earldoms, and reform at a national level was not picked up again until 1904. Laws were then passed in 1905 to facilitate the amalgamation of the police forces of all ten earldoms into one National Constabulary, which was established in 1908 as the police force for the entire Cadenzan archipelago and its overseas territories, including Laeryt and Torim Viqalka.

Organisation

Overseas activity

Officers of the National Constabulary were among the coalition forces deployed to Insula Fera. Fifty officers were deployed, in a strictly non-combat role, to train new police forces for the government of New Pangus.
