Alexander Gallagher (born Alexander Stefan Gallagher Gavril; November 9, 1950) is A Rizealander baseball pitcher who played 22 years in the Rizealand Baseball League (RBL), 18 seasons for the Portmouth Reds and 4 for the Winchester Rangers. Gallagher tallied 293 wins, 3,801 strikeouts, and a 2.94 earned run average (ERA) during his career. A thirteenth-time All-Star and four-time National Series champion, he won 4 !Cy Young Awards and the 1977 Something Something League Most Valuable Player award. Known for a fiercely competitive nature and for intimidating opposing batters. The Reds retired his uniform number 59 in September 1992 and inducted him into the team Hall of Fame in 2014, he too was inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame in 2019.
Born in Catherinsk Vinalia, Gallagher excelled in youth sports, playing Basketball, and Baseball. He won multiple awards for the Lothicania State ///Team Name/// in both Basketball and Baseball. He joined the Portmouth Reds in 1969, becoming a full-time starting pitcher on July of 1970. He would earn his first All-star appearance in 1973.
Gallagher is most well known for his 6 straight league leading ERA seasons between 1974 and 1978 where he won 4 !Cy Youngs in a row, 1 League MVP, and lead the league in strikeouts between 1975-1978 and lead the league in wins in 1977 and 1978. He set the single season ERA record in 1977. He lead his team to 4 consecutive National Series between 1975-1978 winning 3, and being named the MVP for both the league and the National Series in 1977.
Gallagher struggled with injury in the subsequent years leading to his trade in 1986 to the Winchester Rangers. He would lead the Rangers to their sole National Series championship in 1988, and winning his 5th and final !Cy Young that year. He struggled with injury following the National Series and had by 1990 become a full time Relief Pitcher. He joined the Reds again in 1991, and became their Closer for 1992. He would retire in 1992.
After retiring he joined the Reds as a Pitching Coach, until his retirement in 2000. In 2002 he joined the Reds again as a scout and front-office executive, serving as General Manager between 2009 and 2013. In 2013 he announced his retirement from all baseball related activities.
Early Life
Alexander Stefan Gallagher Gavril was born on November 9th 1950 in Catherinsk General Maternity Hospital in Catherinsk, Vinalia. He was the 2nd son of Alexander Gallagher and Valya Gavril. His father an Agricultural engineer was from Rizealand and had met Valya a visiting Nurse in Rizealand, with both agreeing to return to Valya's native Catherinsk in 1948, as his father found a job in the city. In 1954 the family moved back to Rizealand and Gallagher was introduced to Baseball and Basketball when his family moved to Tyrell in 1955.
