Tim Preece (born June 9th, 1951) is a Zamastanian politician and businessman who currently serves as the Governor of Pahl since 2012. Prior to this he was the lieutenant governor from 2008-12 and a provincial legislator from 2000-08. A member of the Blue Conservative Party, his tenure as governor has largely been based on economic investments, deregulation of provincial markets, removing restrictions on firearms, and introducing stricter criminal punishments. He vetoed two bills aimed at legalizing marijuana in Pahl, but these were overturned when Congressional Hall legalized recreational marijuana nationally in 2022.

Preece has faced criticism for his views on LGBT rights, having proposed legislation which would have banned same-sex marriages or civil unions being performed in the province despite the 31st Amendment affirming gay marriage in the constitution.

Early life and education

Career

Preece has had an extensive dual career tending to his family's ranching interests and in public service. During the 1981 and 1985 legislative sessions, Preece represented his father, David Preece, in the Senate on a temporary appointment due to illness, during which time he served on the Finance and Resources Committees. Preece also managed his family's ranching operation, Preece Land and Livestock, for almost 30 years until his son, David, became manager in 2008 when Preece was appointed lieutenant governor. He continues to work as the head of Preece Enterprises, Inc. (a diversified farming and cattle operation), and is a member of the board of directors of Performance Design Inc., a small Foreman City-based manufacturing company.

Preece has also been involved in a variety of private organizations and companies based in Pahl. He is a former chairman of the Pahl Association of Commerce and Industry (PACI), "The Voice of Business in Pahl", and was a member of its board for 20 years (1981–2001). Preece is also the former vice-chairman of the Pahl Community Foundation and the Itto Public School Foundation, and the former director of the Pahl Wool Growers Association and the University of Pahl Foundation.
