Elstock has a multi-party system, where numerous political parties are represented in the country's Senate. The country's political system traditionally saw the Democratic Union of Elstock as the dominant party until the early 21st century, whereas the modern day system has been described as fragmented and prone to electoral upsets and the dominance of local issues.
