The 2023 Green Party leadership election is expected to be held between July and August 2023. It was triggered by the Prime Minister, Clas Markussen, who called the election in an attempt to face-down critics within his Party. He has announced his intention to stand for re-election, and is the only declared candidate so far.

Procedure

The election will be held under one member, one vote, with instant run-off preferential voting being used in the event more than two candidates are nominated for the leadership. Members will be able to cast their votes either by post or online. Voting will open on Monday 28 July, and will close on Friday 11 August.

To be included on the ballot paper, candidates will need to be nominated by at least 15% of the Green Party's Members of Parliament, at the time 37 MPs.

  • Thursday 29 June - Nominations open
  • Thursday 6 July (12:00) - MP nominations close
  • Thursday 13 July (12:00) - Supporting nominations close
  • Sunday 27 July (12:00) - Last date to join as a member and be able to vote, last date to register for online voting
  • Monday 28 July - Postal ballots sent out, online voting opens
  • Friday 11 August - Last date for postal ballots to be returned, online voting closes
  • Monday 14 August - Results announced
