Tora, officially the Federation of Toran States, is a nation in northern America. On land, it is bordered by Kota to the west and south and Torio to the east. It has a coast with the Bofert Sea to the west, the Inuvialuit Sea to the southwest, the Jeness Passage to the south, the Tora Sea to the east, and the Arctic Ocean to the north.
Tora is ranked moderately high for civil liberties and moderately for HRC-FS human rights. For political freedom, it is ranked moderately high. Freedom of movement among the states is restricted per the Federation Admission Agreement, however individual states may make free travel agreements with each other. Government is held in a delicate balance between three political parties. All three parties show signs of desired authoritarianism that may be enacted if any party holds a majority in all branches of government. Political rights are protected at the moment under the three parties.
Tora is one of the few countries in the world to mine uranium, as well as produce nuclear energy for domestic and export use. Tora also produces a large amount of hydropower and wind power. Diamonds have played a major role in Toran society and economy leading to Tora producing some of the most sought after diamond jewellery in the world. Tora is the only country to mine under water using submarine cities on the seafloor. Toran companies and the government have offered this technology to several nations, but none have shown interest citing high costs with low reward.
Etymology
Tora has a very similar name to the Torah, which is the Jewish holy book, however this is only a coincidence. The name originates from the Victoria Islands, which were a large group of islands including modern-day Toran islands and the western Meranukan islands.
