Lex Nikolaev (2943-present) is the 114th Commander-in-Chief of the Federation of Sol, and was previously the 99th Governor of Eden Mars and the 94th Administrator of Zhelekhan; a predominantly Rusa division of Eden Mars. Nikolaev is the owner and former CEO of Nikolaev Ship Builders, one of the premier spacecraft builders for several governments and private corporations. He has been a very prominent philanthropist and activist, and entered politics by running for Administrator of Zhelekhan, which he won by a landslide. He continuously received very high support during his term. He improved the local standard of living, increased job opportunities, and increased community involvement and interaction. After his company ran into legal and financial troubles in 2980 in Meranuk, he announced he would not run for reelection, to the immense disappointment of his constituency. He returned to politics, running for Governor of Eden Mars and winning in 2986, by yet another landslide. He served for two terms, cutting the last one short by one year after winning the Commander-in-Chief election in 2995. During his time as governor, he implemented protections for small businesses, improved financial independence of citizens, and implemented strategies to reduce depression among the population. After he was elected as Commander-in-Chief, he brought his plans from Eden Mars to the national scale. He worked to integrate the country further by subsidizing space travel and strengthening ties with Sibra, Laka, Meranuk, and Hella. He also attempted to open a line of communication with Magarsha, however this ultimately failed, and instead Magarsha has continued to increase their presence in space.
Nikolaev and his company experienced legal problems in Meranuk starting in 2980. His company was accused of not meeting necessary standards after building two large spacecraft for cargo transport for Spatial Deliveries Ltd that partially burned up on reentry to Earth, causing extensive damage and loss of life. During this time, investors began pulling out and clients steered clear, leaving Nikolaev Ship Builders’ stock and revenue to plunge. Nikolaev personally battled the multiple court cases, until evidence surfaced in 2983 that proved Spatial Deliveries was negligent and had failed to repair systems designed to protect the ships during reentry. Spatial Deliveries was ordered to pay 100% of legal fees to Nikolaev Ship Builders plus an additional ₵10 billion for lost revenue and defamation. Additionally, all civil lawsuits against Nikolaev Ship Builders were redirected to Spatial Deliveries.
Nikolaev married Claudia Andreev in 2968 and they had three children. Their personal life is very private and not much is known of them. Regina Nikolaev is supposedly the heir to the family business, however this is unconfirmed.
