Laka, officially the United States of Laka, is a nation in northwestern America and northwestern-180 Antarctica. In America it is bordered by Kon to the northeast, Forna to the east, and Meco to the southeast and it has a coast with the Bofert Sea to the north, the Chukota Sea to the northwest, the Bering Strait to the west, the Bering Sea to the west-southwest, the Pacific Ocean to the southwest and southeast, and the Gulf of Laka to the south. In Antarctica it is bordered by Sibra to the west and the Federation of Sol to the east and it has a coast with the Ross Sea to the northwest, the Pacific Ocean to the far north, the Amundsen Sea to the north, and the South Pole Sea to the southeast.
Laka is ranked high for civil liberties and moderately high for HRC-FS human rights. Laka’s constitution guarantees all civil liberties, using the constitution of the United States of America with about 80 amendments to update it through the years. Despite this, there are restrictions against speech and expression that have brought cause for concern among certain countries and Lakan political groups. Laka has a representative democracy, widely considered to be influenced heavily by lobbyists. Democratic processes are respected despite this.
Laka is a major exporter of crude and refined valuable Earth materials ranging from old world coal to new world rare Earth elements. This wide range of materials means Laka is able to have significant trade relations with most of the world. Laka also has territory in Antarctica providing additional mined products along with a popular vacation spot for residents of Pagona and Antarctica.
Etymology
The name Laka is from the old United States of America state of Alaska. Alaska in turn is from a native word meaning mainland, which was the name adopted by the Russian government for the colony.
