Johannes Ernst Schmidt (31 May 1908 - 15 August 1996) was a Besmenian politician who served as the 7th Prime Minister of Besmenia from 1964 to 1972. From 1960 to 1974 he was the chairman of the Social Democratic Union. Schmidt also served Federal Minister of the Interior and Vice Prime Minister.
Schmidt was the leading figure in the Besmenian reunification process in 1966/1967. For his work in the reunification process, he was nicknamed "Prime Minister of Reunification". In addition, his popularity increased within the population, which he was re-elected in the 1968 Besmenian federal election. However, its popularity declined in the early 1970s due to the economic consequences of the reunification. As a result, he was defeated in the 1972 Besmenian federal election against the BVP with Robert Gleitzmann.
