Borland, officially the Republic of Borland (Borish: Republiek Borland), is a country in western Patyria, with overseas territories in the Artalias. Flanked by the Savic Sea of the Cercian Ocean on its northern coast, Borland is bordered by Apelia to the west and Vierzland to the east. The country has a highly-urbanized population of 23 million people, who are mainly concentrated in the capital city Anderveld, as well as other cities such as Beringen, Strijsen, and Oosterum.

Borland's territory was settled by Vierzic tribes who were eventually subsumed by the !Roman Empire in the 100s AD, later gaining some autonomy under the Kingdom of Apelia. Borland was generally controlled by Apelia, Tierada, and the Vierz kingdoms until its war of independence in the early 1600s, when it gained independence from Apelia in 1609. The country moved to colonize the Artalias and Oridia, establishing a pervasive land claim in South Artalia - much of which was lost after Borland's defeat in the First Apelic War in 1766. Borland's defeat in that war provoked radical, revolutionary feelings that coincided with the eruption of the Apelian Revolution and the Second Apelic War, leading to the permanent disestablishment of the monarchy in the country.

Geopolitical conflicts in Patyria put Borland in a precarious position as the "Battleground of Patyria." During the Great War, Borland officially declared neutrality, but was invaded and occupied by Socialist Apelia in 1943; it was liberated from Apelian control in 1946 by the Vierz Empire and the Borish resistance, and became officially neutral in the ensuing Silent War.

Borland is a founding member of the Union of Patyrian States, the Assembly of Nations, and the Borish Confederation.
