Hölle [pronounced: Hollar] (English: Hell or Pandemonium depending on variation) is the Commoner Angel who rules the Underworld, is the Angel of the dead and darkness, and is the guardian over the afterlife. He is the personification of Hell (or Underworld/afterlife) and the afterlife in TECT Mythology; he is depicted as the ruler of Hölle (Underworld), commander of the vast armies of the dead, and overlord of the kingdom of the dead. Son to Erde, after splitting rib bones and using darkness in his heart to birth him; he is also believed to be the reincarnation of darkness, taking the place of his great uncle, Dunkelheit. Hölle, according to various texts, is the son of Erde while other texts depict Hölle as being the son of Dunkelheit -- others even depict Hölle as being Dunkelheit's reincarnated self reborn. In TECT Mythology, Hölle is personified as ruling the Underworld and controlling the darkness in human hearts, often called "Hölle's grip" or "Hölle's vice(s);" he is also personified as the ruler of the dead and the guardian of the afterlife.
Hölle is the ruler of the Underworld, a place characterized as being both very dark and very cold; it is said that many places in the Underworld are purely lit by glowing stones alone, making for less visible light if any at all. This domain is accessed by rumored tunnels that lead deep into the Earth; eventually, travelers pass into a dimension somehow that separates the mortal world from the underworld. This place eventually became known after its ruler, Hölle, but still goes by the Underworld, Afterlife, or the translated variations of the word 'Hell' sometimes.
Hölle is described in many texts, epics, and art but does not appear to be the main focus of these works. He is more often referred too then he is actually written about; work that does detail him usually describe tales of greedy goals, internal fighting in the godly family, and the Underworld itself. Hölle is usually characterized as being of average mortal height when not in his godly form (large size) with pale white skin and wearing a purple robe. He is always wearing the Helm of Fear, a metal-bone composite helmet shaped with skull features and Yak (horned animals) horns; his face has never been seen or written about -- rumored that those who see will die of fear alone. Hölle wields a quad barbed spear (spear with three points), Speer der Verdammten (Spear of the Damned), that instils his power as king of the dead and other abilities that link to his domain. As personality concerns, Hölle is characterized as being incredibly cold and anti-social; he also has a deep rooted jealousy for his siblings because he is trapped as the ruler of the Underworld for all eternity while others are free to enjoy the outside world -- his kingdom he sees, is sometimes a prison. This deep rooted hatred has created bad blood between him and his family (excluding children) and he is forced to either never leave his kingdom or be shunned when stepping above ground. Hölle is also characterized as being one of the most powerful and terrifying gods in TECT Mythology because of his power, strategic location and situation, and access to the vast armies of the dead.
History & Origins
Hölle is the second son born from Erde; he was created using the darkness of Erde's soul and fragments of his own skull (which he restored easily). Erde created Hölle in the Underworld, in darkness, to fulfill his intended role. Erde created Hölle for the purpose of running the after life for all life, evil or good. According the Epic "Beginning of End", Hölle was born into his role as king of the darkness and the dead, never leaving, never changing. "Hölle, home to the dark this is realm, the Underworld. The dead walk single file down death's road to be judged, good or evil, or none of the above. Is he not trapped in the world he ruled? Is Hölle's Hell Hölle? What differs him from the dead he presides upon?"
Hölle began his days presiding over the realm he was born into. He set upon dominating the creatures of his realm, the hell hounds, moles, serpents, and other creatures that originate in the Underworld. His early exploits were fighting the native rulers of various zones of the Underworld, kings that were made up of large beasts that ruled with strength. Many who spoke ill of the glowing Erde despised the son that stood before them -- only dumbfounded by the opposite features that stood out between the two. Hölle didn't show mercy to any of the so called rulers of zones in his new domain; he slaughtered them all and cast those who begged for mercy into the deepest tunnels of the Underworld, the Labyrinth of Arachnida, where they suffer for all eternity. Hölle then cast the rulers who he killed (coming back as spirits) into the tunnels as well. Although not really a conquest; scholars believe his show of punishment was a conquest, though Hölle was born with the powers as king of the dead and the Underworld.
