The Inyurstan Air Force, also called the "RIAF" or "Forçé Aéro D'Inyursta", is a branch of the Inyurstan military specializing in aerial combat operations and intelligence gathering. It has approximately 260,000 active personnel and about half that in reserve, significantly smaller than the Inyurstan Army and Inyurstan Navy.

History

During the Inyurstan Civil War, a small combat air group known as "Les Cielés Librés" was formed to combat the Soviet-backed air corps of Solvereux's regime. This air group was comprised mostly of pilots who had been trained in the US or other anti-communist countries; but both foreign volunteer and mercenary pilots were also employed to combat communist forces. Aircraft flown by "Les Cielés Librés" include the DC-3 transport, A-1 ground attack and F-84G fighters, among others.

The Inyurstan Air Force was made an official branch of the Inyurstan military in 1969 following the victory of counter-revolutionary forces in the Inyurstan Civil War. Since then the RIAF has participated in every conflict involving the Inyurstan military, including the 1986 Guerroca War, Lolloh-Ruolnik Conflict, DEN Invasion of Colombia, Greco-Bulgarian War, Sea of Juarez Maritime Dispute, Inyurstan Operations in the Middle East and the San Meresque Incident.

Mission

The official mission statement of the RIAF is:

• To protect and serve La Républiqua D'Inyursta and the democratic ideals it represents through the protection of aerospace, collection of intelligence, support of other branches and termination of foreign threats to the Inyurstan Republic.

Personnel

The Inyurstan Air Force is comprised of a highly diverse group of personnel, ranging from pilots, aircrews, mechanics, special forces, security, administration, intelligence, engineering as well as monitoring and maintaining Inyursta's twelve military satellites.

Duty Communities

Pilots are considered the "faces" of the Inyurstan Air Force, however they make up approximately 1% of all RIAF personnel. Regulations permit that only officers be allowed to fly aircraft (including drones), but unlike many other air forces, the RIAF both has a relatively large warrant officer corps and allows warrants to fly most aircraft.

The majority of RIAF personnel are logistical support crews. A given airbase will have approximately eight times the amount of logistical personnel than any other specialization. Excluding the Navy, all other services depend on Air Force support and supplies, and the service is the largest mover of material between bases both in-country and abroad.

Intelligence collection and transmission is also a major mission of the Inyurstan Air Force. It maintains a large quantity and wide variety of aerial intel platforms, including both fixed-wing, helicopter and UAV's. Air Force intelligence personnel are one of the main forces responsible for monitoring Inyursta's military satellite force and deciphering information retrieved through satellite and sub-orbital means.

The RIAF has two units considered "special forces" (which technically fall under the command of JSSOC); the 61st Special Aviation Regiment and the Battalion Réscuto Aériàle. The 61st SAR is responsible for providing transport and air support for all special forces units in the Inyurstan military, the only standard exception to this is that BEMÉ are often supported by naval aviation assets. Battalion Réscuto Aériàle is a highly trained and elite pararescue force responsible for rescue and medical stabilization of downed pilots or other stranded Inyurstan forces in significant danger behind enemy lines.

The Inyurstan Air Force follows a similar ranking structure to all other branches of the Inyurstan military, including enlisted ranks from E-1 through E-9, commissioned officer ranks from O-1 to O-9, and four warrant officer ranks. RIAF personnel have the highest ratio of officers to enlisted personnel. Battlefield commissions are unheard of in the RIAF due to the nature of their operations, but warrant officer school is available to capable and distinguished enlisted personnel to qualify them for flight status.

Aircraft

The Inyurstan Airforce operates and maintains a sizeable and diverse number of aircraft. Because one of the major roles is providing all-encompassing intelligence and logistics support to the Inyurstan Army, Inyurstan National Guard and sometimes NIS when necessary; the RIAF includes a relatively large number of C4ISTAR aircraft.
