The Mondragón F17 Mediator is a 4.5-generation, twin-engine, supersonic, all-weather air superiority fighter designed and manufactured by Mondragón Heavy Industries. The F17 Mediator replaced a number of dated aircraft that were then in the Carlosian Air Force's inventory. While initially conceived and operated as an air superiority fighter, it quickly became apparent that it also had utility as a heavy, multirole strike fighter. In Carlosian service, it is complemented by the smaller and less expensive F19 Santana multirole fighter.

Overview

The Mondragón F17 Mediator is a twin-engine, supersonic fighter. Due to its ability to execute a wide variety of missions, it is often regarded as the backbone of the Carlosian Air Force. When it first entered service, it fielded many of the most recent advancements in aerodynamics and avionics technology, and the fleet continues to be routinely upgraded in response to evolving threats. Its unique configuration grants the F17 with exceptional manoeuvrability, and the adoption of a fly-by-wire flight control system and an airframe composed of lighter materials means it is somewhat lighter than its predecessors. The F17 Mediator is armed with a 30 mm L580A2 6-barrelled autocannon.

General configuration

The F17 Mediator has a combined cropped, tailed and canard delta configuration, giving it exceptional manoeuvrability.

Armament

The F17 has 14 hardpoints.

Propulsion

The aircraft is propelled by a pair of 2D thrust-vectoring afterburning turbofans manufactured by MGED Eléctrico.
